Meet the Officers of Boise State's Project SHINE
Dr. Casey Keck: Faculty Advisor
Rachel Roskelley: President
Welcome everyone! My name is Rachel Roskelley and I am the current president of Project SHINE! I am a senior at Boise State University, seeking a degree in Linguistics and graduating in May 2018!
I've been involved with Project SHINE for a little over a year now and what a journey it has been! I never expected people to affect me the way that working with our students do. My only regret is that I didn't find it sooner! Working with the elders in Project SHINE has been one the most rewarding experiences not only professionally but personally too. Connecting and building relationships with the elders are two things that are a top priority to me when it comes to working with Project SHINE. It makes every day that much more gratifying!
Since I have started with Project SHINE, I have learned many hands on techniques for teaching ESL, in a valuable experience that is unlike any other. For this being the field that I would like to go in to, it's really great that being apart of this program allows me to apply the tools that I have learned from my Linguistics professors at Boise State. Because of the impact that Project SHINE had on me, after graduation I am going to continue teaching English, abroad! Then, the hunt for grad school will be on, where I would like to get my MA in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language).
